My tank is about 4.5 months old now. It has been fallow for about 55 days now to eradicate ich that was introduced because I didn't quarantine.

Right around the time I pulled the fish to QT and treat the ich, my nitrates dropped to near zero (.2 on Salifert test kits). It had gone through a phase of diatoms, then a lot a green algae on the rocks. Since the nitrates have bottomed out, the green algae has died off and there is this darker brown stuff on everything (rocks, glass, sand, powerheads, etc). It is slimy and gets stringy if allowed to accumulate. It easily blow off the rocks and sand with a turkey baster, but any glass or plastic surface needs to be wiped down. When it is in the water column, it looks white and seems to form strands while filtration and pumps are off.

I have a few pictures taken with a cheap microscope. Can anyone tell me what it is and how to get it under control?
