Idea and plan for new tank

@vicmonahan139, if all of this is a little overwhelming, then consider a AIO tank or smaller system.

The other option would be to buy a system used from someone getting out of the hobby. Could save a ton of money and make it easier to have all the things you want.

I'm going with my plan. I'll get that sump it's the most important thing for the tank

I'm thinking of a sump like this

That might work, but most of us use a sump to place everything equipment wise in it. Skimmer big enough for a 120 wouldn't fit in there.

So bad news I found a premade sump on bulkreefsupply.com but it's $2,349... so I'm in hell

Here's my sump. Now understand I planned on a basement sump for my current system. I found this used 125 gallon for under $100 dollars, cut out the overflows and made baffles out of glass. All for under $150.

Now, you can buy a tank and do the same. Very cheap. Just takes some planning, some research and a little money. Can be done. In stand sump tank like a 20 gallon would work. Used or even new. Petco has sales $1 a gallon. Cheap.

Who do I buy from I don't have friends?

I don't know how the **** to setup a sump or even how ******* plumbing works?

Why can't I just use a hang on back filter and do water changes and protein skimmer and maybe reactor.

You can and it can be done successfully. Most reefers, not all though, regret not going with a sump at first.

Do as you have planned, you should be fine. Best of luck and happy reefing!:)

My plan is a canister filter with some bio rings and filter media for the tank, water changes when nitrates get to high, water tests weekly, cleaning my protein skimmer when needed and feeding my fish and making sure everything is healthy. Also a water heater and some flow fans.

I'm having a panic attack. I understand the nitrogen cycle and all that but the sump is just driving me insane!

I can't make a cheap one I'm only 14 and my mom wouldn't allow it. I want to try and run a tank with just a protein skimmer and a canister filter but I don't want my fish to die or get sick. The sump is driving me insane that I want to ******* cry. I'm so stressed and angry the sump parts cost so much. I might have to steal and sell things. I'm having nightmares that the fish will die because that the sump is setup wrong or that if I don't get one they will all die. I just want to own healthy happy fish so I can look at them and relax. Please help me some how

Forgot what I said I'm feeling better because I've devised an idea for a D.I.Y sump. Posted a rough draft of the idea here
