I've been trying to get a fish from my tank with no success. I made a trap with a 2 liter but no luck after a month of trying. Which brought me to this idea, and wonder if anyone had tried something similar. So, they make fish nets to catch fish out in nature, so why not use a small version for the aquarium? So here is my idea.

Use clear mesh netting (like some aquarium tops are made from), and build a collapsible net that lays on the sand surface. Attach fish line to the netting and when a fish swims over it simply pull on the string and lift it up, and trap the fish.

Seems logical to me, but if it as easy as it sounds I'm sure someone smarter then me would have invented it already...lol. thoughts?

Best advice is to just buy one. It will save a lot of time and frustration.

One thing to get your trap to work better is to get your fish unafraid of it. Put it in your tank for a few days without a plan to catch anything and just acclimatize them to it being in there. You can also go so far as to take the door off and feed them in it.

+1 to @Jeepguy242 we have used the exact same trap to catch a the same tang on 2-3 occasions when we were introducing new livestock and wanted to "reset" the balance of the tank. Can take a bit of patience but it works quite well in my experience.
