Just tooling around with some thoughts.
Posted this in the lighting discussion by mistake.
What if you ran a canister from the tank as an outflow mechanically filter it with floss, carbon, zeolite, or whatever you need to clean the water. It then pumps into a refugium to do the biological filtration with a proteen skimmer. Then a pump at the same flow rate brings it back to the tank.
No need for drilling or worrying about a power failure and siphoning your tank into the floor.
Just a thought. Would open up some space in the sump
