I realize this is primarily a reef forum, but I thought some of you would have some thoughts on this question.

In my fish only system I am running a month of hyposalinity (1.008). This is for a bit of Ich I noticed. For all those who wonder the ich came from some hermit crabs that I bought from LFS. All fish are always qt'd prior. Normally the system runs at 1.020. I known as the water gets closer to iso osmotic the fish have to spend considerably less energy with osmoregulation amongst some other benefits as well.

With all that being said what in your opinion is the ideal salinity for the majority of marine fish?

Would anyone run a fish only system long term less than 1.020?

There's not an ideal, as different fish are from all sorts of different waters. What is "ideal" for one may not be "ideal" for another. I've run tanks between 1.020 and 1.025. Most on the lower side.

I had a hospital tank at 1.008 for 3 months one time.

Thanks. I have run at 1.020 since the beginning in this system and have never had a problem.
