If your tank has ich, the best defense is healthy fish ...Having suffered from ich before I am hesitant on any tangs what other fish are also ich magnets i should avoid?
Thanks for the recommendation of dr reefQuarantine or purchase pre-quarantined fish before adding anything to your display. If you don't add a fish with ich to your display you will never have ich at all.
What I would avoid are fish that are extremely sensitive to medicated quarantine procedures if you don'twant significant extra work. Examples include difficult to feed copper sensitive fish like Mandarins and leopard wrasse. These would require live food cultures over an extended 6+ week observational period to ensure an ich free display. These would be better purchased from someone like Dr Reef to avoid doing this yourself.
Ich is a moderate annoyance if it manages to get in and a weaker fish croaks.IMHO, all tanks have ich it just needs a weak and unhealthy “target” before it shows.
I’ve not faced ich in 11 years (So almost my whole time in this hobby), I have never QTd.
This is another much like Ich. IMHO it will wind up in your tank anyway as that too can lay dormant on coral, rock and sand.Ich is a moderate annoyance if it manages to get in and a weaker fish croaks.
The need to QT comes from Velvet, not ich. I bought what appeared to be a "perfectly healthy" mandarin from an LFS that was happily scarfing down mysis, worms, and fish roe and didn't QT it. 3 days later I lost every single fish in a 125g except for a single clownfish that made it through emergency FW dip and copper treatment. The resulting ammonia spike killed about half of my coral. Total loss in excess of $3000 of livestock.
