ok i started out with power compact system for 75 and 2 H.O.T. magnum filters and 2 power heads and a sea clone skimmer and this is all because of pet care warehouse and from what they said this was perfect lol. well im trying to sell everything but the 2 magnum i have other plans for those but what are some good products that arnt ungodly expensive. i was thinking about building a sump from a 35 gal tank i have sitting around and maybe gettin to retro 250watt halides and an actinic t 5 strip but i want to here some ideas so let me know and any one with a 55gal or 75 gal please post a pick i need new ideas.

hey man, when I setup a 75 gallon several years ago I started with a dual 175 watt halide retrofit kit, made by hamilton technologies. I had a 40 gallon breeder tank that I put a baffle in and used as a sump. it worked great for what I was doing which was alot of LPS and softies.
to better recomend equipment we need to know what types of corals you want to keep, and that doesnt just mean this year, think about long term. when buying equipment you dont want to buy twice, or in your case three times. if your keeping LPS and softies I would recomment between 175 or 250 watt dual halides. 250 watt being extreme if you went with a 55 gallon. if you want to keep SPS you will need 250 watt, and probly want to use HQI's if possible. as for a skimmer, same situation. if you want lps and softies you could probly keep the seaclone even though it isnt much of a skimmer. but if you have a sump your options are endless for a good skimmer. if you want SPS then the skimmer is one of the most important investments to make.

give us some ideas what types of coral your interested in to help decide what equipment to recomend

oh man i got a sea clone and didnt like the thing at all.. the so called water tight fitings were not water tight at all.. and it didnt seem to work as well as i thought it would... get a better sklimmer .. it will do wonders

Welcome Garth:

As Brian mentioned. What kinda corals are you planning or wanting to keep? Forgive us if you are newer to the hobby and don't know the SPS, LPS, etc termonology yet.

Seeing that your from chattanooga SPS would be the stuff in the back two tanks at 5th day.... Let us know what your long term goals are and we help make suggestions.

well i want a mix and kinda im keepind my lps zoa,s and softies and im rebuilding my entire tank and stand over the last month ive been building my stand to hold my diy refug and hold my sump once this is done i plan on putting money down on a set of lights 2x250 and 2 x 54 wat actintic pc's and i promise to update my profile with picks of everything to help with better opions on everything

I've use the seaclone skimmers and while I'll agree they arenot very good long term , short term or in a pinch , they can come in handy. I've never had 1 leak on me but I have heard many stories about this happening. On three of my tanks (which all had seaclones) I've replaced 2 with better skimmers. Plans to replace the 3rd one with a better skimmer coming soon

That light should work out great. You ought to be able to keep the majority of corals - of course depending on water quality and such.
Keep us up to date and let us know if we can help in any way.

pet care warehouse's coral tank looks nasty, they have a lps right in front of a maxi1200 it looks like it has blown the polyps off stuped people

your telling me when i first started this hobby?obsesion they were the only ones i knew off and after buying enough useless equipment and finding bermuda and 5th day and finding old friends and making new ones im finally making progress. pet care ware house told me that a 296wat power compact would be more than enough for my tanks what a joke all it does is keep my lps and most zoa's alive nething else is almost instand death but yeah too many people with no knowledge messing with one tanks and have you seen there 300+$ rare coral any one know ne thing about it?

yup i check on their shipment days/ buy feeder fish (allot more important lol) but i check to see if i can rescue anything ive said 3 decnt lps and 1 softie before i reliezed it wasent worth it now im nothing but 5th day and bermuda lol ill send my love and anyone who askes where they buy things like that or want to setup i always send them that way and i let them know they will help ne way they can lol
