Hello everyone! I am highly considering a new reef aquarium setup and would love your ideas and feedback. My top choice right now would be the Red Sea Reefer 350. Does anyone have any thoughts on the Reefers? Also, looking for some suggestions for skimmer, return pump, heater, and lighting. Lastly, would love some ideas for livestock (Reefer 350 is 73g display plus 18g sump). Thanks everyone!

I am a fan of the red sea tanks (except for price). I also like their lights and skimmers. However, I would consider a refugium over a skimmer unless you are going to heavily stock the tank. For return pumps, I like the current dc pumps. For stocking, I always recommend an algae eating blenny and a pest eating wrasse for pretty much any tank. I like functional fish first, and then decorative last.

I'd go as far as to say have both a skimmer and a refugium! Especially in a tank as stunning as an rsr350. You can add a separation in the sump for one or use your ato chamber for one (personally I would just add a separation but I have access to a 3D printer and laser cutter so it all depends on your DIY capability) and your tank will be absolutely stunning. While I don't ~yet~ own an RSR I'm looking to get one secondhand soon, and that's what I'll run, as that's what I run on my current display! As for livestock, I definitely agree with functional fish first. You'll have a gorgeous tank in no time. Post pics and build thread when you take the dive! Good luck :)

I think the sump is too small for both but I need to double check the dimensions.

lots of nice options out there these days.
waterbox
Fiji cube
SCA
ect.

Tell us what you are looking for?

here's an idea why not do a large FOWLR make a plywood tank in the 500-1000 gal IDK just an idea as I am thinking I might give it a go next winter.

as for as the RS 350 look in to the XL300 I believe it has the wood stand.
also Wb and Fiji cube & SCa have PnP systems. worth looking into.

lots of ppl have the SCA 120/150 with a DIY stand

I really like the style and simplicity of the Reefer 350 which is why it is my first choice. I also want to stick with a reef tank. I believe the newer v3 version of the Reefer 350 has the capability to split the sump for a refugium.

yeah RS are nice tanks I had there 750XXL my 1st "nice" tank but never set it up and traded for the 650P for the new house . so yeah I like red sea tanks to.

sounds like you know what you want then a reefer 350 V3 sump reef tank!

Following your thread, I’m on the same boat and starting research on equipment too. For skimmer I’ve read good things about the reef octopus, and for lights the AI Prime seem to be a good option and not that expensive.

So I actually decided on the Red Sea Max E260 instead. The smaller size will be more cost effective for initial setup, and easier when I have to move every couple years due to the military. I also really liked the plug-n-play feel as I currently have a Coralife Biocube 32 setup. I just pulled the trigger and ordered it. Should be here by the end of the week.
