I'm a biology professor at an undergraduate college. I'd like to set up a cheap and relatively easy to maintain reef tank for a display in one of our teaching labs. I was planning on going without a sump- probably something like a 20 long. I'd love to hear some ideas that wouldn't be very equipment/maintenance intensive (be as specific as possible regarding setup ideas). Something that gets students interested about marine environments, ecology, invertebrates, etc. I'd also love to hear your ideas about the cheapest pieces of equipment that would work for this circumstance.
My first thought was an ecosystem biotype of mostly algae, soft corals, and inverts and maybe 1 fish. Maybe a colorful soft coral tank?
Let's hear the ideas!
