Ideas for encrusting Coral?

As the title implies I am looking for ideas for my encrusting Coral. I'm sure we have all seen the picture included or something similar. I saw a very interesting thread on here involving glass jars. Has anyone seen anything that was very interesting or that might have an idea they would like to try?

I was also interested in knowing if 3D printed objects would work? If this is an option I see the possibilities being somewhat endless. Anything from subtle structure changes and additions to elaborate designs.

I would love to hear from anyone that might have experience with this or if you just might have some crazy ideas like I do.

There was a thread the other day from someone 3D printing SPS coral skeletons and then putting small encrusted coral frags on it to grow them out in unique shapes.
