Anyone have any ideas on a DIY screen top for a 50 gallon cube with center overflow??

I agree with artfully acrylic....excellent quality.......although it isn't a DIY option. You can buy all the parts that come with the bulk reef supply kit at Home Depot or Lowe's for less money, except for the clear 1/4" screen, which you will have to get from BRS (or another location).

Does the kit allow you to create 90 degree angles around the overflow box?

Does your overflow extend beyond the top of your aquarium? Just curious why you would want to go around your overflow...

You can buy extra 90 degree clips to make "cut-outs" but it can weaken the frame or allow it to twist a little...

Yes, you can create as many 90 degree angles as you want, although I believe the kit only includes enough connectors to create 4? You can buy additional ones at any home improvement store that sells screen parts though.

My Red Sea Reefer has a center overflow, it doesn't come to the top of the glass. I cut 2 small pieces of plastic and glued to the top of the frame to flush mount it. The rear sits on top of the overflow box, the 2 rear corners are notched for my gyre wires.

I used this kit and netting from amazon -

Add a $5 dollar spline roller and you are done! I did have to cut the frame to fit my tank, hacksaw cuts it without any problems.

Not DIY, but I'm the one who started the whole plastic lid idea several years ago. more expensive than DIY, but looks so much nicer.

Just to add, you can create 90's around the overflow, I did it myself but you'll have to manipulate those 90 degree corner pieces to do it. They need to flipped upside down and you'll have to cut some of the plastic. Kinda hard to explain really but once you flip the 90's to get around the overflow they do not slide easily into the frame pieces without cutting. These extra 90's also make the frame more flimsy.

I wound up ordering one from AA but Pelphrey's soultion is what i would use today if I were to re-do mine using the kit.
