Water is sitting at 10in, the pipes are 3in off the bottom. Getting to much micro bubbles in my display need to think of a diy basket to hold floss, don’t want to do socks because I was to lazy on my last tank and they stayed in there for 2 weeks. Any ideas throw it in the thread so I can build off of it!

Do you have any gate valves on your main drain? what drain style are you running? You shouldn't have that many bubbles to worry about if the system is tuned right
I did not put gate valves or ball valves on it and regret it. But I got a suction shower basket, drilled holes in the bottom and put floss in it and it cut the sound down so much.

Looking at you setup it would be easy to cut the pipe and glue in a gate valve that would be the best way! you can shut off the retun pump and glue in the valve and let it cure for a few hours. Just keep the wave makers going. I have done this many times and never had an issue. Also I found it best to not let the pipes go that far under the water line of the sump I usually only do about 2in max to allow the air to escape from the line

Also when you cut the pipes put in unions that way if you ever have to make a change in the future you can mock up another union and just swap it over without loosing anytime

You really ought to have a gate valve on there. Why not add one now? Two snips and a little PVC glue will take you all of 10 minutes to do. Do you have a PVC cutter?

Another work around would be to just cut those pipes closer to the surface of the water so the bubbles diffuse more quickly at the surface instead of crashing into the bottom of your tank and dispersing throughout. They are likely larger bubbles exiting the pipe, but since so close to the bottom they get sheared.

If you really want a floss basket, Eshopps makes a cool rectangle one that might fit both pipes.

On a completely unrelated note - you should really put a cover plate on that outlet. You are asking for a fire…

The floss will collect detritus and rot just like the socks.

Ya but I’d rather get all the flow I paid for out of a pump running at 100%. Tune the return, not the output.
Valving a pump back will reduce the wattage. It is not a linear relationship, but it will save a bit.

My pipes are not glued that are hanging over the tank so I can make changes. Do I put a gate valve on both the returns and then the rest of the pipe going down into sump out of the gate valve do you have it going under the water or no? If so how much? then do you crank up the return pump and then how does the gate valve assist me in tuning? New to this stuff. I bought a big return and want to turn it up but I only got it on setting 4 out of 10 so if I can do something to turn it up please help. Also how come currently once I turn the return all the way up it just sucks the return section dry of water faster than it fills?

You likely only need one gate valve, but to help with any of these questions we first need to know what your overflow design is. This article may be very helpful to you: Overflow Boxes and Drain Styles - Durso, Herbie, and BeanAnimal

Regarding the sump draining before it refills, you may need to add some water to the sump until the level balances with the display and you get a siphon going on the main drain. You may need the gate valve first to achieve siphon though

Okay so I have the durso and it's two separate overflow boxes and they are 1" drain lines. The drain lines are separate and I have two going to my sump. For whatever reason the tank was level but the left side overflow drains more rapidly than the right. But with them being independent lines and overflows, I think I would need a gate valve on each but not sure. Also, I have achieved reducing the bubbling from the videos but it is still there and would like to tune it out due to the bubbling creating a lot of evaporation but more importantly salt creep everywhere down in my sump.

Photo of my overflow style, just have 2 of them on this 180:
