All DIYers,

I am looking to add a Kessil a360x to my 180g, in between my 2x AP700s to reduce shading.

The problem is that cannot use the kessil brackets (shadow overflow box in the way) or the stand mounts (1.5" PVC in the way) available. Hanging is not possible either due to height of ceiling.

Q: Any suggestions on how to make a clean mount that attaches to the back wall (see red "x" in pic)?

I've read about using a security camera wall mount but need one that extends at least 16 inches from wall) and cant find one that won't rust.

Q2: what about a way to bridge it between both Ap700s? Like via metal wiring or string?

If you are handy you can modify these or similar shelving brackets. Amazon is your friend when thinking outside the box.

Thx P-Dub. I've found options similar to this, but have yet to find something that is stainless steel or that won't rust theoretically, from the saltwater splashing.

Ive had tin issues from metal hooks above my sump before and hate to think about dealing with it again.

Take a piece of aluminum angle and screw between the ap700s. put a hole in the center for the 360x mounting bolt.
So do you mean attach the aluminum angle on top of the Kessil arm ( but aligned with screw) and just get a longer screw? That's a great idea.

Do you think the added weight will be an issue on the ap700 mounting arms?

Not at all. I have the A360X and they weigh next to nothing. Not to mention if the weight it distributed between the mounts it shouldn't be an issue. Are you going with 1 or 2 A360X's?

Good deal. The plan was initially one only.

Then last night I started thinking if it was better to angle multiple 160we instead, or even some strip LED like Orphek/Reef Brite on the front/back of each AP700 to really minimize shadowing.

Essentially I am up for anything, even possibly 60' Aquaticlifc hybrid unit but hate to ruin the clean look.

I don't think so at all.

Make sure you post pics when done!

I would say you could get away with one A360x no problem. I tested two A360x's over my Red Sea Peninsula 650 to see the coverage and was quite impressed with the spread. Now PAR numbers on the other hand would be a different story.

+1 on this. I've done this to mount Kessils to ATI T5 fixtures. Cheapest option and you can paint it black. Aluminum wont rust.
Just curious, any reason it has to be an aluminum angle? Do they not have just a piece of aluminum that is shaped like a ruler?

Edit: Just realized you suggest that to hide the wire, but I could be wrong.

I've used the straight aluminum as well. Its about $2-3 for about 4ft.
