Temp goes from 78 in the morning to 82 at night. Tight fitting lid n I hav egg crate holding it slightly open. I can't leave it all the way open because I hav a wrasse.
Any ideas?

I used to have a 29 gal that I used a little Honeywell fan to cool it. The fan was no bigger than 6 inches in diameter. Walmart carries them for $10. Is it in front of any windows or anything? Alternative is spend some money and get a small chiller.

Get an egg crate lid for it and run a fan on the top, or point the powerhead at the top of the water... or both...
or a screen top

Ok it's 8am here right now at 81 degrees. Just pointed the power head at the surface. I'll post the temperature when I get home from school.

I had a mh system for my 29 and so I had to have a chiller. I uprgarded to LEDs but still use my chiller often because it gets pretty dang hot here during the summer time! I also have a seahorse and some very expensive chalices so I dont want to risk my whole tank to a disaster! If I were you id just invest in a chiller, should be no more than 300 for a 24.

Best thing I ever did was lose the pc lighting lid on my nano and go open top. At first I upgraded to a 150w halide suspended over head and employed a little computer fan to blow across the water surface when temp reached 80 (via RK lite). That worked great for a couple years and then I upgraded to an LED fixture. Still open top, and fan never needs to kick on anymore. I also have jumpers so I use a black eggcrate. I would prefer to go with a clear screen top but my nano has a curved front. LED's pay for itself in electrical, bulbs, heat issues and higher PAR.
