So I thought I would be a good idea to put my fishtank in the wall. It turned out great until I want to move/clean anything in the tank. having to do all tank maintenence from the back side looking down from the top and not having a clear view of what's going on has turned into a pain it the ***!

I'm looking for some ideas of getting access to my tank from the front but still having that clean in the wall look.

OK bring on the ideas!

A panel or window above, like 2 or 3 port holes that you can open and either use a mirror to reflect back. Use some sort of sea related decor in the porthole for when not open--like a shadow box, or picture, or something. Even just a nice round or square hole with a nice painted wood cutout on it. When needed you swimg it open (set up a mirror or a handheld for working) and when done, close? All I can think of.

I was thinking a thicker frame around the tank on hinges that lifts up so I can get to the top... idk

When I had an in wall tank, I just dealt with the inconvienence of working from the back. Aesthetically I didn't want a hinged door above the tank. Granted, it was a freshwater planted tank so not as much maintenance.

Cabinet like doors above it. Tank at our office looks like four cabinet doors but the whole frame hinges up and you have 6’ x 24” to work with

I've seen people use removable background. Like a piece of black or blue acrylic that they took down for maintenance and could then see from the back. If you can remove your existing background this may be easier than trying to do a construction project around the running tank...

Use another phone on a ladder (or person) in front of the tank and video call it or a webcam? Make a small ledge to side of your tank to prop it up so there’s no risk dropping it in the tank! Obviously doesn’t help with access but you “see” what you’re doing.

If you use a faux panel surface from the floor up surrounding the aquarium you can have a panel installed without noticing the lines. Any faux panel would create a nice visual break in the design without distracting from the beauty of the tank. There are lots of styles to choose from such as stone, wood, etc.

An interesting option would be decorative metal ceiling tiles. Copper could really pop.

that's one of the ideas I was trying to convince the wife of... ;p doing the wall in faux stone and having a puzzle type piece be removable. Fingers crossed!
