I recieved this coral from a friend. We don't know the name of it. I would like to find it a home in my tank where it will be happy.

When it was in my friends tank, it had a small flower like extension. Almost whitish/green. I am looking for identity and where to place it. Right now it is center bottom with med/mod flow.

Goniopora by your description of the flower like extensions. Or one in that family. They are not easy to take care of. I believe low - med flow and Id keep it on the sand bed depending on your light. Yours is nice and big....doesn't look to happy right now though. Post of a pic of when the extensions come out.

I thought I heard it was a ------closet coral? I'm not an expert reefer by no means. This one makes me a bit nervous. Your right it doesn't look happy. It is starting to look brown. Any advice?

Never heard it called that but it could be something else. Google Goniopora and check out the images to see if thats what it is. For advice, I have none. whenever mine began to brown like that... they were doomed. At least for me. I have one know that has been thriving for the last 3 months.... But cant really tell you whats different this time around than in the past when I kept them. Maybe look at your Params?

I remembered by looking at the pictures after being googled. It was call the Flower Pot Coral. I am sure m not ready for this coral. It sounds pretty aggressive and very difficult to take care of. I'm going to give it my best. I do have it in the sand bed with pretty high lighting. I will watch him. It's only been 24hrs.

Yes, your right thats the other name for it. From my experience it was never very aggressive with anything in my tank. But it is difficult. Two little fishes sell goniopora food. I highliy recommended it for this coral. Good luck and keep us updated. Might just be stressed from the move.
