So I'm setting up my tank, and had a minor setback (apparently 3/4" hose and 3/4" hose connection don't always work -_-) so basically, the tank has salt in it, but it's not circulating through to the sump yet because I needed a return pump connection. The tank has had a powerhead to agitate for about 3 days. Now I have a light brown film on the surface and a little bit settled on the bottom. Is this diatoms? I know I'll have some, I would just be surprised since there's no sand or rock in the tank. I assume I am all good to put sand and rock in? I just want to know what it is, I know I'll have algae and this probably is algae, I just didn't think I'd get any with literally nothing in the tank.

could be salt residue, contamination/dust from the glass, something from the water. algae grows but 3 days? some people have residue in the salt mixing tank. could it be that?

Im going to put my money on dust. Especially if the tank was sitting without a top on it for a while before you filled it. You have no rock in the system and no lighting right? Then I wouldn’t think its algae after three days. Unless you have some good sunlight hitting the tank.

Yeah there's a window nearby but it has shades on it. So that was kind of my thought as well. Thank you!

That's kind of where I'm at. But alas you can't tell anymore because now that I added rock and sand you can't see anything :D
