Hi! Curious on what this species is? I’ve been combing posts and I cannot find it. I don’t have any coral/reefs in this tank and it’s 3.5 years old. This is the first I’m seeing these pop up all over. I also haven’t had fish in this tank for almost 2 months. All that is in it is a cleanup crew so I haven’t been checking parameters as much as I probably should.

Pineapple sponges (genus Sycon) - harmless filter feeders; they tend to boom then bust in population before going away on their own. Kind of surprising to see them in a tank over 3 years old; they're a lot more common in newer tanks.

I wonder if it’s because I have been neglecting the water parameters? When I have fish in the tank, I’m checking every week but there are only snails and hermit crabs in this tank.

Possibly - the parameters (testable or otherwise) must have shifted to make a good environment for them, or they must have cone in recently (like on an invert's shell or something).
