got this guy as a hitchhiker. Just found him today. Looked at mushrooms but couldn't find an exact match. sorry for the terrible iPhone shot.

Not really. They take on odd shapes at times depending on flow, light and parameters. VERY hardy coral. Tolerates a wide variety of light and water chemistry.
