I would definitely say it is a type of sponge, most likely beneficial!

I have not posted on this board much but i currently have a 60 cube i set up used 3 months ago with a few fish and corals, after a mini cycle everything has been going smoothly except for a few little coral issues. This is my zoa rock in the center of my tank(came with the tank), luckily not...

It looks similar to this guys stuff. It’s not really invasive until it starts taking over corals or causing you problems. If it spreads quickly and you plan on putting corals in that area, it might be a good idea to try and peel it off.
