Can anyone identify this tang. Sold as a fowleri but hoping some tang experts can help! Just starting to get some colour after being introduced to his new home.

It’s not the best he doesn’t stay still for a second!

Striated bristletooth (Ctenochaetus striatus)
It looks like a stressed one at that. Certainly not from Acanthurus (Fowler tang is A. fowleri), Zebrasoma looks completely different, Prionurus is similar to Acanthurus in looks but has 3 scalpels on both sides. Naso has 2 scalpels on both sides and has a different body shape.

I was thinking Ctenochaetus (bristlenose genus) from the 1st pic, but wanted to be sure.

I'm not 100% on C. striatus, but that would be my guess too.

Thanks. I had a feeling it was some kind of bristletooth. The shape of the tail wasn’t right for fowleri I didn’t think. He’s darkened right down after being in the tank a couple days on lots of veg!

Yep that’s a striated for certain now

Got a better photo of him. Can see the yellow coming out on his fins and eye. Had a good chat with LFS and he assures me it’s a fowleri juvenile so I’m just going to watch him grow and find out!

I’m being thrown off with the pattern now- I want to say a striated bristletooth still but it’s too dull
It’s still not Acanthurus since the tail shape and body is wrong

Yeah nope, not juvie Acanthurus fowleri. It’s for sure a bristletooth. Here’s a juvie fowleri:

I’m still going with striated bristletooth over any Acanthurus.
