Hi - I recently observed some almost translucent stringy material growing on the frag base of my zoas. It is only located at the base of the frag and around the spot where I have the frag placed. It looks like it is beginning to move up into the coral a little bit.

Could someone help me identify?

Thank you

Looks like there's a vermetid snail on the bottom. They use a mucus net to feed which is probably the stringy slime.

Would it be hard and calcareous? I just took another look and I believe the part you are referring to is whats left of a coral branch. It wasn't hollow in the middle. I pulled up some pics of the snails and this material isn't long or stringy.

I also noticed when I pulled it up to the top and had the bottom of the frag out of the water the material became jelly like.
