Do I just hit it with that with all water movement turned off and leave it or should I remove it?

Kill the flow and inject the evil critter right in the center without touching it so it doesn't retract before the solution makes contact. Let it sit a min or two. Then resume normal operation.

Ima try Ta2oodfreaks method nice and easy to start and ima get a peppermint shrimp for sure for added security lol see how it goes
