I purchased orange zoas from the lfs about 7 months ago and after a while a purplish star looking matt starting growing. It grows fairly fast.

It looks like xenia, they grow really fast like weeds.

Clove polyps would be my best guess

+1 on clove polyps and they'll probably overgrow your zoas, I'ld separate them soon.

How would you seperate? I once took put the rock and scraped them off then carefully applied hydrogen peroxide and worked the areas over with a toothbrush. Put the rock with zoas back and over time the grew back.
