Hi All
My tank is now about 7/8 months old and have had an algae outbreak (pic attached) - LFS said it was Diatoms but i thought they were brown ???
Could anyone confirm what this is so i can treat / react accordingly

Also i have a pair of Melanurus Wrasse and basically they eat any clean up crew i put in there shrimps, snails last days if that - hermits seem ok and a pair of Tuxedo Urchins any ideas on safe critters ??

Thanks
Nik

Could be diatoms, yes. Did your tank ever go through the "ugly" stage when you cycled it? After 7-8 months you should have way more coralline algae.

If you could post your tank size/details, water parameters and any other pertinent details that would be helpful.

Thanks for the reply - I thought this was the ugly stage to be honest - didn't have lights on for approx 5 months as i was trying to take my time.
Tank is RedSea Max S 650 - PH 8.3 KH 9 Nitrates are a bit high at 20ppm (im trying to address this now probably overfeeding !!) - im running Carbon, UV and Phosguard Filters
Thanks
Nik
