Idodine doses what are your thought

What are your thoughts about Iodine dosing in a 36 gallon tank to help with my soft corals and zoas ? Some say good some say bad 2 drops per 25 gallons is what I have read every week . Have not tried it yet just wondering

Dont dose what you dont test for. Most tanks wont need much additonal iodine, if any, and its very easy to overdose. Its best checked with an icp test and added when needed. Until you have an idea of how much the tank is consuming i wouldnt dose at all.

Thanks for the information do it before in my larger tanks but not in a 36 gallon 2 to 3 drops max a week mostly having zoas and soft corals in the tank

I do two drops weekly in my 36g bow front and I’ve seen more growth out of my zoas

No problem. I have a ton of zoas, over 50 different colonies and thousands of polyps. i add iodine only a couple times a year if it gets low on icp tests. Usually water changes alone keeps up the necessary levels. If you dont do regular water changes you might be more likely to need it, but again i always recommend testing to know for sure. If you dont test and start adding anyway you could be adding it for months and as it slowly creeps up, one day everything could die from it and you will be scratching your head as to why since everything was growing so good til it wasnt. Too low of iodine is alot better than too much.
