After the passing of my wife, Cory Girl in 2013, I jumped head first into Reefing and failed miserably. I looked at the awesome displays of nature many of you have in your homes and said to myself, " I can do that and I will'. As time progressed I realized I wasn't succeeding. I blamed it on lights, skimmers, bad water quality, local shops...you name it. I kept going for roughly four years and then dropped it. Time, effort, money wasted.
Family and friends would come over and ask what happened and I'd avoid the topic but I couldn't hide my passion and desire to try again and do it right. The Covid-19 pandemic gave me all the time I needed to get back in so.... I began reading Reef2Reef! Day and night I read about RODI and permissible readings, would seams blow out on a tank left a couple years with no water, quarantine, lighting, skimmers, sumps, and every other thing that would pop into my head. Did I mention lighting? If it was a question in my head related to reefing chances are someone had asked it and you, Reef2Reef answered! I was amazed at the wealth of knowledge being shared freely. Gone were the days of pulling books off the shelves in the hope that the author may have found the need to include the answer my concern in the limited space of his or her writings. This was amazing! I'd get up in the middle of the night and grab my laptop to determine if I should add coral or fish first. There was the thread and my question answered! I obtained a better understanding of basic principles and I'm having fun... What more could I ask for?
I want to thank Reef2Reef for the knowledge shared and in advance for the guidance I'm sure I'll be needing as I move forward.
I must admit, I'm terrified about making mistakes and failing but at the same time I'm trying my very best to follow the number one rule I keep reading in the forums, nothing is fast in reefing.... GO SLOW!!!
My 180 is cycled. the 60 cube is at high nitrites and the 40 breeder is set up as a quarantine tank. Here we go people (sigh).
