If chalice is greying out, does that mean it is dying?

I see a hint of light grey developing at the edge of the chalice. I'm not sure if this was there before, or if its getting worse. I feel like its getting bigger. This is a small piece and the first time I have owned chalices.

Should I move it to a different spot? I currently have it about 16" deep in the tank (2" above sand, + 2" sand). My lights are 10" above the water line.

Im using 6x54 ATI Powermodule.

Water paramaters are normal. Temperature swings from 77-78 currently. I have mild-moderate hair algae issues, but am bringing a GFO reactor online this weekend.

Can you be more specific about the grey developing?

Is the chalice just changing colors or is the flesh peeling back and exposing the skeleton?

Do you have any potentially hazardous fish?

Any sweeper-tentacle corals nearby? (torch coral, galaxy coral, etc)

It could be new growth. If it were dying you would definately see fading color in the overall coral.

Can you post a pic of it? What are your parameters, especially Mag?

I will post a picture later tonight. There is no skeleton exposure. The only fish I have are 2 clownfish. There are no sweeper tentacles nearby.

Alk 8-9dkh
Calcium 420
ph 8.1-8.25 variance

Mag appears to be on the lower side, some believe mag levels play a key role in Chalice coloration. Is this coloration isolated to this one chalice?

Looks happy I think, but im new to chalices so i just want to make sure. I just noticed a little bit of the skeleton on the top left of the 2nd picture though.

The system is 4 months old so fairly new.

What he means by photo shock is getting to much light... It's either bleaching from to much light or it's healing from where it got fragged... I can't tell because I didn't see it when you got it... You can move it into shade or just keep a eye on it and if it gets worse then move it..

T-5's are pretty powerful. Whats your photo period? When did you introduce the ATI? Where you running T5'S before you got the chalices?What kind of light where they under before you got them? Could be a lack of nutrients but all in all the the corals do looks healthy.
