Hey guys. To add to my troubles I was looking at a monti cap I have and saw some of these little boogers hanging under it last night.

They shouldn't be a big problem in my tank since I only have small frags that can easily be removed for dipping/manual removal. Just a heads up to check your montis. I dipped everything before adding them but I know that doesn't get the eggs. All of the corals I have now i have gotten recently in the area so I'm sure others probably have them.

Yeah, luckily I don't have any huge colonies so eradication shouldn't be too hard. Too bad they are so destructive, they are kinda cool looking.

Where did they come from?? So no one else gets the same issue from them again. That way they can deal with them also, AEFW got spread around the club in this same way.

I really don't know for sure and I would contact the person I got them from and let them know if I knew. I have gotten corals from a few different people in the last few months. They possibly could have also hitchiked on a non monti coral as far as I know. I even got a couple of things like a clam from AC that they could have hitchiked in on. The coral they were on I have had since last fall so I would think there would be more by now if it came in on it. I only found 4 so far. It also came from a well trusted source.

I don't blame whomever I got them from. I know how hard parasites can be to spot. When red bugs started going around a few years ago I got some corals at a frag swap from someone who had them and found out about them when I got home. I stared at the frags for a very long time until I finally saw them. Now I can spot them pretty quickly.

I debated on whether to post anything about them or not but I decided I should just to let everyone know they are out there and to not let your guard down. If you have some montis you might want to check them over just to make sure. I got lucky and spotted them before they did any real damage.

Yeah, I have these two crawling around in a petri dish trying to decide what to do with them. They are pretty quick as well.

I had zoa eaters at one time. Not many, just a few. I manually plucked them as I saw them and fed them to my maxi mini. I don't think they got much chance to breed. I saw eggs once and removed them since it was a moveable frag.

I'm certain the difference betweed monti eaters and zoa eaters is very little and I've read plenty of stories that a double dose of flatworm exit will do them in.

Mike good luck man you seem to have luck similar to mine, but your luck is close to mine something awesome is going to happen soon! I bet you wish you still had that laser , to go death star on them .....

I have been checking the montis and haven't seen any more so maybe I got lucky and caught them before they spread.

What's up Mike... stop it !!!

I agree that they are cool looking, and I am glad someone confirmed they are the monti nuni's so I will know what to look for. Size?

I'd say probably a quarter of an inch long or so. I knew exactly what they were when I saw them.

Sorry to hear that, Mike. I had them when I was in Nashville (got a free cap colony-nothing is free;)). I took extreme measures. Cut everything off of the pieces I had so there was either all flesh or new bare spots. Then I hit every bare spot with superglue gel. 6 weeks of dips and never saw them again. These and AEFW's are my biggest fear. Had both in Nashville and now QT everything. Everything gets a dip upon arrival and spends time in the QT (Jenn's 75 since she doesn't keep monti's or acros). I'd rather kill it in QT than get them back in my main system. Once was enough;).
