There are so many reasons this happens. You probably won't find the real cause in many cases. Don't let it drive you crazy.I keep seeing these threads, which I have also created, about this same problem. Parameters are always stable and spot on and these deaths never get explained. Something HAS to be common here.
Don't overthink this. These are living animals and living things after all. What causes stn for one may not for another. So I get water from my rodi unit which is 0tds. Maybe we are thinking about what STN/RTN all wrong. Instead of it being an unknown reason for it to happen. their is a common thing reefers do that we just have to figure out. Whether that be from the store purchased or in our reefs themselves.
I disagree with this plenty of tanks that are “young” Work our just fine
It comes down to the aquarist knowledge that’s it

Friend of mine with a 400+ gallon system lost a huge 2 foot wide sps colony recently. No other losses. No major changes. System has been up for years.Frankly RTN/STN is one of the most unexplained occurrence in sps environment and I've personally seen it happen to even the most hard core all sps system. Weird thing is that it may occur on one single colony with the rest not being affected at all while in the same tank/system!
You get aged live rock and use live sand right which falls on the aquarist knowledge nothing to do with tank ageI'm not sure about that. I know a couple pretty famous guys from the reefing world disagree with that.
It has more to do with rock age as opposed to tank age anyway, it seems.
Thanks I have a longer one in a diffent threadThat was quite a rant
