I battled my way through Cyano which seems the only way for me to keep it gone is to dose H2O2 regularly, I see it coming back:mad:. The I was fighting with GHA pulling clumps out, scrubbing with bushes weekly finally used Fluconazole, which btw worked like a charm saw whiting of the algae in two days.

Now the GHA is gone took 4 weeks I ended up dosing some BRS 2 part to keep parameters up and dosed NO3-PO4 by redsea and was able to keep the nutrients down while everything was dying off.

Now I have this Green/Brown/Red algae on the sand bed that looks a lot like Cyano. I have done 2 water changes and stirred up the sand bed trying to cover the algae up. The stuff comes back the next day stronger than the day before.
Parameters are:
NO3 - less than 4 I used redsea high range test
Po4 - .04 ppm
PH 8.1
Salinity 1.026
Kh - 7.5
calcium -420
Mg -1480 not sure why this is so high I haven't dosed Mg at all.


My plan is to do a lights out period and keep dosing the peroxide and nopox. Any other ideas to rid myself of this?

vacuume the sand and do water changes.
It'll take a few weeks to heal up from the other treatments.
Stop the nopox and peroxide. You'll just complicate the issue imo.
Fwiw the nopox is likey helping the fuel cyano bacteria.

Grab a good bottled bacteria.

To bolster the bio filter. Add diverse strains that may have died off over time or due to whatever is going on in there and also to cut down and possibility of ammonia From stirring things up.

There's a large bio mass you can see there and as that rots it'll put the nutrints bac into the tank. So it's also a jump start to get it digested by the bacteria and sent to the skimmer.

Bio Spira is actually good. Dr Tims one and only. Dr Tims waste away and the probidio line are likey the most diverse and strongest.

Guess I never thought about the bacteria dying off. I had some brightwell aquatics bacteria lying around I tossed in and purchased Bio Spira and probidio for diversities sake.

Few weeks ago met someone who said every month he put bottle of Dr Tims into his tank. He claimed like he never had issues with any algea. Is it possible?
