If you could keep a perfect temperature in your tank would it be colder or warmer? What would be your ideal #

trying to set alarms on the Apex and my tank has given me the freedom to set my heater wherever I want being colder or warmer. My tank likes to hover around 76.5

mixed reef but I Will probably lean SPS dominant eventually

A natural reef can vary from under 50F to over 90F.

Shallow reefs near the equator can vary over +/- 10F in a 24hr period. Tides, changes in wind direction, storm fronts, etc.

at the end of the day, they will adjust to tolerant temperatures, the goal is to understand your reef and try to replicate a reef system, most people mix and match corals from everywhere, including animals, and so you have conflict in environment. for example;; a mixed reef is more difficult to keep than an sps reef.

I assume you mean tropical reef. If that’s the case, no, they are warmer than that. Often 80-84. I can link a dive log temp graph to show you an example.

I keep mine at 78-79 as a balance.

My tank runs between 78, and about 81. It all depends on whether the AC is on, or the heat is on.

I've never had that kind of swing bother a thing in my tank.

78 when I have to pay for heating; 80 when I have to pay for cooling.

Currently, my DT is in the house and the sump is in the garage. I live in Florida. I have never used a chiller and only run a heater if it has dropped sub 50 outside. I have an alarm on my tank that will go off if the temp drops below 72 or goes over 80. The alarm has never gone off, my DT averages 76-78 year round.
When the sump moves into the house, I will need to reevaluate the temperature and adjust fire accordingly.
I do run a small heater on my QT.
