Check your ATO unit/top off water!

I cannot express the countless times I've read that, with it never clicking in my head to actually change the filters!

I restarted my tank last January, and I had a reef guy set everything up for me. I admit I was too afraid to mess with anything in fears to start leaks.

Anyway, I've been battling with algae, but more with diatoms all over the sandbed. I get natural sea water changes once a month, and for about a week the tank looks awesome, and crystal clear! After a week, it turns disgusting! My TDS meter was off the charts, and the sediment filter was literally brown! After changing it, it took 2-3 weeks, but my tank is literally crystal clear now! Water clarity has made a 360 turn! Diatoms? Gone! Nitrates and phosphates are very low! I admit I started Vodka dosing, but that was only to remove the existing nutrients that was already dosed.

I never realized that I was literally dosing nutrients every time my ATO turned on. Just wanted to leave this reminder to stay on top of your RODI filters! And thanks for whoever helped me in my nitrates thread!

Inline TDS meters on your RODI filters are worth their weight in gold.

I always keep spare filters handy, and switch them out the second my DI output goes from 0 to 1PPM
