Hello hello! I am close to getting water going in my tank, and I'm excited! This is a fun process. I hope that things don't go too sideways or that I find the work to be too much that I ditch it. Regardless, this is my first ever tank, at least in the sense that I am owning and taking care of. We had a 55 gallon octagonal freshwater when I was growing up, but I've always loved saltwater tanks more!
Anyway, I scored (what I've been told anyhow) a craigslist deal. I got a 120gal (I believe 120gal...60x18x24) SeaClear acrylic tank with corner overflow, a generously sized sump, the stand, the top lid, Current USA submersible pump, Current USA Orbit-Pro lights with LOOP controller, Magus 5 protein skimmer, Arctica chiller, and 120lbs of live sand. I've since gotten my live rock and GFO/carbon reactor. I've ordered 2 more Current USA 2100gpm flow pumps and 1 more 1050gpm just to be able to integrate them into the LOOP system. I've got my 3 channel dosing pump and chamber on order. Tigershark algae scrubber, refractometer, 75W heater, ATO, test kits, reef putty, and more pre-filter socks all on order! I still need to get some T5, which I'm planning to get four.
Now, I only went and bought the deal from the craigslister and got inspired to search, find a tank, and get into all of this, because I have a friend. He's got his own coral and tank services business, and if anyone in Ventura County, CA needs a new or better source for corals, then PM me. His garage is AWESOME. He'll be at Reefapalooza this coming weekend. I'm helping him set up on Friday. I imagine that I probably won't get water into the tank until next week, because he needs water for the expo. I love just having the rock in there and have the lights on. It's cool that the lighting is programmable and does passing clouds and lightning.
Hoping that I can have the tank starting with stock before Christmas. I'm going to plan all of my additions with the counsel of my friend, of course, but I want all the types. As far as fish go, I've got the following in mind:
Filefish
Foxface Rabbitfish
Yellow Tang
Chevron Tang
Naso Tang (maybe the Blonde)
Engineer Goby
Goldstripe Maroon Clownfish
Snails
Brittle Stars
Any other suggestions? I don't want more than 3 Tangs.
