:nerd: I was curious. I know that R2R has members from all over. Does anyone know if there are places like cities, states, and/or countries were it is illegal to keep corals in a fish tank? A friend of mine said that there are no restrictions anywhere. Is this true? :nerd:

As far as I know there is no countries where you cannot keep coral. Japan I see as the biggest restrictor because they do not allow export of hard corals. People over there have beautiful tanks though.

No my knowledge it illegal to keep coral in Hawaii. Its illegal to collect coral and or ship coral into Hawaii making it illegal to have coral in the state.

Thanks for the FYI. I had a strange feeling in my gut that somewhere on earth it would be illegal to have them in your tank. Now I get to prove that dummy wrong...lol jk :xd:

I agree with Japan's restrictions. My buddy who was stationed there said something interesting about that. I guess its all about "simplicity and harmony" with that country...lol.

Unless you're a dolphin or whale or tuna

I know for fact that you cannot keep Corals in India, but you can keep inverts and fish. Its illegal to collect and even import corals from any country.

I was getting ready to say that^, i read something about india making it illegal to keep corals...but then a again, isnt there this huge fishtank in india, with corals??? I think there was a thread on it here on r2r

I think soon I think it will be in states that are near a reefs, cause in Florida when they had one of the many hurricanes it flooded houses and broke tanks that then released different types of fish that weren't supposed to be in that area of water, which then screwed up the natural balance. I think the main fish was a lion fish, which is supper hardy and eats everything, and there was nothing there to De populate it, and now it is destroying the Florida reefs....

All true, but "reef Building" coral must be added to your reply. Local soft corals are able to be kept, but can not be shipped in.
