IM 20G peninsula filtration

Trying to sort out a process with this tank. It has a sock chamber, then another chamber, then the return chamber.
It comes with this media caddy thing that doesn’t fill the second chamber so all the water will not be passing through it. It does fit securely in the sock chamber. Not sure why they would design it like this to make it either/or, or “kinda” work…
Anyway…
They also have a UV unit that only fits in the sock chamber as well. It has a little sponge filter.
does anybody have experience running this UV instead of the sock/media basket? I was thinking filling the second with filter floss and the occasional carbon bag or gfo or purifier whatever when needed.
I was also looking at the fleece roller that is coming out, but it seems like having the dirty roll sticking out is both unsightly and probably stinky. The tank is next to my living room couch…

You either run the filter sock -or- the media caddy - not both. In the caddy you can use the included IM "balls" (reusable with rinsing/scrubbing), carbon and GFO bags. Alternately you can use standard filter floss, ChemiPure Blue and bio media in the 3 chambers instead (ends up being a lot cheaper).

The second chamber is for a skimmer or reactor (skip over the IM and look at the IceCap or Bubble Magus skimmers).

With my IM Lagoon 25's I ran filter floss, ChemiPure Blue and MarinePure small hexes in my setup.

Thank you. I prolly go the route with the caddy and chem blue etc. unless…The other thing they say is you can use the caddy as refugium. I’d be interested in that, not sure how it would work though. In the second chamber, with the sock in the first?
If I hang their light over it, it would surely spill light into the tank and grow unwanted algae? If you put it on the outside, the glass is black, surely won’t work.
Tunze makes a clean waterproof light that could go inside the chamber with the cheato but it’s too long. Interested in how that set up would work and what they were thinking logistically.

InTank makes a specific caddy for a refugium that fits snuggly in the second chamber - I'd look into that if you want to go the refugium route.

I have a roller filter in first chamber, yes it sticks out like a sore thumb but when I saw the muck it removes I soon fell in love with it, I have a reactor in 2nd and the UV without sleeve in 2nd, also heater, return in last…where there is a will there is a way.

I would drop the sock if cleaning is not your thing, they are excellent otherwise.

You could start with the media basket in first, floss on top, add rowa etc as needed, if you find this is not enough then change things up.
Oh and forgot, smell is not an issue as rolls are made of material that is smell resistant.

What roller are you using? I haven’t seen one that’ll fit the small chamber in the IM “desktop” tanks.

I’m in the UK, this is it, I’ve seen similar in the USA too.
