well I did not win the 20K dream tank...so I guess I better decide on my 2nd tank..lol

I want a small nano to focus on RFA. mini max

I was all set on an IM20 peninsula but there i no where to put that makes any sense. so we decided in the Im 25 Lagoon it will fit nicly in the cornor of the living room.

but after adding it all up the other day....
and rethinking of useing the 40br I have, HOB skimmer and BML lights it might not be as fancy and a sleek IM tank but it;s a lot cheaper. dose not fit as well in the spot and would have to move a baseboard heater about 6-8" should not be to much of a big deal.

so I keep going back in forth for a while now. but its getting time to make a choose and stick with it.

so lets workshop this out guys/gals...

pros of the 40br
about 1K cheaper =more $$ for fish and coral
more stocking room
I have it no need to ship
lighting is close to tank = no light spill over room
i will not be tempted to set it up as a FW planted tank as my original thought was.

Cons of the 40br
not really a nano was looking for a fun little tank by the couch
more stocking room =more money to fill it out in fish and coral
must move baseboard heater
not rimless and not as sleek as the IM
no good place to put heater :( except in tank = not as clan looking as an AIO
lighting is good not not sunset/sunrise

pros of the IM 25 Lagoon:
dont have to move heater
sleek brand new rimless tank
clean all equipment out of tank
smaller tank more of what I am looking for as far as filling with RFA

cons of the lagoon:
1K start up
no cheap stand
must wait until BF and ship it
have to get all new hardware

so as you see they all have there pros ans cons I have been going back in forth for a cpl weeks trying to get the "right" tank for me.

I have it narrowed down to these to ( although the evo 13.5 keeps coming up but same problem as the IM20 pen, )

any thoughts?

I've been to the carribean lots of times and found tons of rock flower anemones in little tide pools. It's just that kind of coral, I think it would look more at home in the lagoon tank (plus think how cool looking from the water surface it would look)

i was thinking the same...a Lagoon in a Lagoon of RFA :D

This was exact thing I was considering..

Lagoon vs 40g breeder..

Depends on what you want to achieve...
If you put tiny 3~4 fishes with full of corals go with lagoon

If you want more fishes in the tank (alhought dosent make huge difference) go breeder

Mine is 40g breeder next because I love to see fishes swim In tanks. You can drill hole do sump then you can achieve really sleek looking reef tank as well.

Also For 1k little over if you buy used sump skimmers and other used equipment you can set up really strong system which is more better environment than lagoon 25

I feel like lagoon 25 is easy to take care but
If you try to do really good Reef tank

With 1k 40g breeder with sump is way better I think..

@Devaji @cojo8888 I'm person #3 that has been trying to decide on whether to buy an IM 25 or a 40B for a second tank.

If the 40B was rimless, the decision would be so much easier for me. Have you considered the deep blue 34 rimless? The dimensions are the same as the 40B but just a few inches shorter for the lagoon/frag tank look. The online prices seem to be a bit more than what LFS usually sells for likely because of shipping so ask around. Also, not sure where you are but my local forum posted 3 deep blue tanks, 2 of which were unused, for nice prices.

thanks for chiming in.

I have a drilled 40br in the garage...in fact I have 2- 40br 1-10 gal ( ATO for what ever tank i set up) and a 20L
the idea was /is to set up a nice tank I will love and get rid of the rest.

with that in mind I could do a sumped 40/40 not sure why I am not felling that? if i was on the other end of this thread I would suggest the same, and I might but i am looking for simplicity, sexy, functionality.
in fact I have been thinking about writing an article how the 40br are the best beginner setups.
maybe I just want to AIO nano and think the 40br is to big?? not sure I am a renter and already have a rimless 90 that is heavy so just dont want to much fish stuff come the time for a move...guess that might be a reason why AIO are on the short list.

yeah I thought about Deep Blue but there more of an east coast thing. I dont have any LFS as I live in Wyoming not much out here at all. so all my shopping is done on line.
also thought of ADA and UNS tanks. sleek and sexy.
i'll look in to the DB rimless more...

FYI you can make 40br rimless BTW thee are a few videos on YT looks pretty good to. not as good as the others I guess but still pretty good.

@cojo8888 is right tho there 2 different tanks and it comes down to what I want to achieve or do in the tank.
the focus on the tank will be RFA and mini max and shrimp that's another reason why a wanted a nano it will look full a lot faster.

but with the 40br I could do a great Caribbean biotope...

end the end either will work and be great tanks. that's the good news!

thanks guys! I am leaning towards the Lagoon. I just had a oh crap moment when I added it all up...yeah we dont do that right.
I am in my off season where I dont work for the next 6 weeks so I was feeling cheap. I did save for this build but still...

I heard if you don't use aps stand you get leak that's what I heard from lfs (famous distributor in socal) careful!

By the way do you guys consider 25 g is enough stability for nano tank? My current one is around 17g it water parameter is not that stable (mayve due to being a heavy feeder.. if I dont feed them enough I feel like I'm an ******* because I'm putting fishes in a small cage and I think I should at least feed them well)

My nuvo 25 is extremely stable but i have a lot of gear connected to it helping me.

Having something available provided it is in good condition is always nice and allows you to use that money elsewhere. Having owned a couple 40 breeders it is actually a really nice foot print. In fact, it is one of the reasons besides affordability that everyone picks them up over the 55 and 75 gallon brother and sister. While it will not meet the initial lagoon in height you can always overcome that by what you place inside in terms of substrate and base rock.

I mean you don't need to do wall to wall rock. If you want a lagoon look you can scape the rock such that you have swim lanes, sand beds, or half crest on one side (left or right) and let it slowly yield to your bed of choice. Flower nems around that base, lead to some soft corals, which leads to some branch lps and gorgianians, and at the crest a nice think birds nest type branch that 20 or so cardinals or damsels call home. Pipe fish on the bottom and other pygmy angel like a coral beauty or flame back.

Lot you can do. Just scape it accordingly and stock.

yeah i do love the 40br and have thought about doing what you said might be more inclined if I did not have to move the base board heater.
save that $$ for coral its getting outta hand these days...

the requirements for 'getting' a 2nd tank is that it had to looks really nice and clean fit a spot in the house and be all enclosed. on and dont splash saltwater on the wall like my 20L did...oops

I have never heard that before I am on the IM club face book page lots of owners there maybe i'll ask around and see if any one else have heard this. might be true? but I kinda doubt it. if a tank manufacturer made a tank that could only be used with it own stand I think the word would have gotten out.

i am most likely gonna get the APS stand anyway...
