Just got water in my 30 L.
A pair of Pink Skunk Clowns are going in when its ready. What are the best tankmates that will provide excitement and variety?

Royal Gramma, Clown Goby, Prawn Goby, Cardinalfish would be compatible; I personally like orchid dottybacks for such a collection although some reefers warn against them. A small long nosed hawkfish would add interest as would a molly miller blenny, although it might be too aggressive for the gobys. A Kamohara blenny has an unusual shape and good movement. Of course, you'll only want a few of these for your 30 gal tank.
Good luck

I think orchid dottybacks are beautiful, but I have read a lot about their potential for aggression so that might keep me away. Royal grammas are striking fish that I have long admired.

Mimic Filefish maybe? I have one in my 30l and he's a good guy aside from his weekly coral "trimming" (nipping)
A great idea, lovely fish and I know it would bring some interesting variety to the tank

One thing I must note is if you go with the Mimic Filefish, you'll want to feed twice a day and have some pods in your tank.

I keep an orchid with a pair of Ocellaris clowns and never a problem; orchids are not particularly aggressive in my experience - certainly not like the neon dottyback, etc. Of course, one might behave semi-aggressively in a 30 gallon - some fish do seem to have distinct personalities. I'm still flipping a coin hoping the Potter's Angel I want is reef safe, 50/50 chance but I'm thinking of gambling.

heres a picture of my Mimic, great fish.

Orchid dottybacks are much more peaceful than their dottyback cousins.

Other options include:
Royal gramma
Yellow assessor
Stigmatura blenny
Swales basslet
Flame hawk
Neon goby
Firefish
Pink streak wrasse or possum wrasse
