Hello all,
I have been following Reef2Reef since getting into this hobby a few years back so I figured it was time to *retroactively* post a build thread.
I decided to finally upgrade my Fluval Evo 13.5 nano system a a few months ago after really getting into SPS and wanting more space.
I didn't have a filter yet when I took this picture so excuse the blue.
I was fortunate to never really have problems with the system outside of the usual uglies like diatoms and hair algae. The EVO was perfect for my purposes but was just a little too small to pack in all of livestock that I wanted to keep. Here are some of the specs from the old system:
Lighting- Kessil a360WE
Filtration- AquaticLife Nano Protein Skimmer (chamber 1), inTank media basket w/ PolyFil, ChemiPure Blue, and Seachem Matrix, DIY Chaeto Reactor
Flow - Sicce Syncra 1.5 Return Pump, Hydor Pico 180 Evo-Mag Circulation pump w/ drilled PVC for better distribution of flow
Here is a wide shot of my 3 month old IM 30L:
Lighting- 2x Kessil a80 and 1x Kessil a360NE
Filtration- IceCap K2-50 Skimmer (chamber 1 left), inTank media basket w/ PolyFil and Seachem Matrix (chamber 1 right), Marine Pure Spheres, live rock, inTank Floss Holder, AquaMax GFO reactor, PhosBan Reactor w/ NPX biopellets.
Flow - Sicce Syncra 1.5 Return Pump, 2x Jebao PP-8 on random
The IceCap K2-50 skimmer fits like a glove in chamber 1 of these tanks, but only if you take off the flow directors. The skimmer pulls well, but I find it often stops pulling for no apparent reason. The problem is resolved by simply unplugging the skimmer then plugging it back in, but still strange that its happening. I am considering getting a new skimmer so if anyone can recommend a good one for this tank, please let me know!
Overall, this new build has been a lot of fun for me and getting to finally expand my acropora collection (or obsession) in a nano system has really been so enjoyable.
Here are some close up pictures of the livestock:
