Are Innovative Marine's APS (Aluminum Profile Series) stands as great as they look? They seem to be a notch above almost all the major competitors who use wood or plywood material. I'm considering purchasing one even if I don't buy an IM brand aquarium to go with it. Any one have any thoughts, good or bad on the APS stands?

The stands are nice imo. Go to your lfs and see them in person... granted, the IM stands do cost a bit more than the other options. It’s worth the cost. The IM tanks are also very nice. Nice, clear glass and an option to get a nano tank with an overflow. I went with the Jbj rl45 because it gave me the most amount of tank for the space I have. The IM 50 wouldn’t fit and Jbj 45 did. The only thing is with any wood/polymer stand is if you spill water, make sure to clean it up right away :)

I have the IM APS stand so far it has been really nice, no complaints. One problem with them is getting a sump in one. I have the IM Lagoon 25 EXT.

How long have you owned it?

I don’t have my int 75 filled yet but I like the stand so far. Pretty sleek looking. It will take some effort to get the sump in. I’ll have to take off a panel and lower it into it since I’m cramming a 34” sump in 35.5” inches of space.

I've had experience with 3 different APS stands and they're worth every penny. The quality surpasses any other wood stand on the market that is not custom built.

Exactly what I wanted to hear. Thanks!

I have owned mine for at least two years, I painted mine white, you can remove the inserts and change them if you want, maybe a smoke glass look. The color on them is powder-coated so the stand has to be painted with the rubber paint.

Hey I know this is an old thread but I just bought the APS stand from IM. How did the colour turn out? My wife wants it white so how big of a job is it to pain it?

You just bought it? IM just came out with white APS stands.

I used the rubber paint to paint it white, you do not need to sand it first, just paint it, you use a lot of cans of paint, maybe get the role on first then finish with a spray can, be careful not to pick at it at you can peel the paint right off. The stand is electrostatic paint.

You might want to look into having it powder coated. I don't see any possible way of spraying or brushing the profiles and getting acceptable coverage. Too many grooves. Powder coating will give a very durable finish.

FWIW, I'm building a matching light support for my IM 150 using materials similar to those of the stand. A company called 80/20 in Indiana makes a wide variety of aluminum profiles. Expensive, but incredibly strong and corrosion resistant.

I know this is a dead thread but I’m considering getting the aps stand for my nuvo 15 but I’m concerned that it will be top heavy and unstable especially on my carpeted floor. I have dogs that often play in near where the tank will be and I just want to know for certain that it wont be too heavy and tip over. Thoughts?
