Hey guys it's been some time since I have been on and I am looking to set up a couple tanks possibly and with this came some questions. I was able to pick up a couple 400w metal halide ballasts and was curious if this is to much for 2 40 gal breeders that would be back to back? I am looking to use a couple of t5ho ballasts I have for actinic, but was looking to use a metal halide as my main grow light. Been working on the whole design of the setup for the past 2 weeks (stand/canopy, sump, ect.) Thanks in advance for the help.

a 400w halide for a 40g is a bit over kill, but if hung a bit above the tank, you'd not have to worry about heat. I'd run em that way, with your T5 Actinics.

Thanks but it would end up over two 40 gal tanks, not just one. So it would be over a total of 80 gal. I figured it would have to be up a little above the tanks either way. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't overkill for 80 gal. Thanks again
