Hi Guys,

After 7 years I'm back in the hobby. Just yesterday set up a Red Sea Reefer 300xl. This looks like the place to be these days. I use to and still am on Reef Central but traffic seems low? I'm excited to be back! I forgot how stressfull it can be though. LOL!

I purchased a guys livestock, LR and water from an existing 60 gallon mixed reef. I am praying that by essentially just moving an establised tank I can avoid all the new tank issues.. That said I had assumed by the guys reef his water parameters were good. Just did all my tests and Alk is at 7, PH is 7.64, Nitrates are over 50, Calcium is 300 and Phosphates are around .05... Looking for some guidance here, turns out the guys tank was not as sound as I thought. I plan on a couple big water changes.

Hi. I would've much rather started my tank with rock from someone else's tank instead of dry rock. Just remember that you also just inherited any problems they had as well

Welcome luvinreefer,
Sounds like you got a jump start.
Your planned water changes should push those parameters toward normal.
Invest in some good test kits, I use hanna for phosphate and calcium, nyos for nitrate. Milwaukee for salinity.
