Do the fancy Wi-Fi controllers/lights/pumps/whatevers still function manually? We just moved out of the city and were told this area gets fiber. It does not. Our singular option is lightning fast ADSL with a maximum 9 Mbps. I'm not confident we can reliably pull up Google, let alone adjust the settings on our tanks or get accurate readings.

They would function inside your home on your home network for sure. That doesn't matter about your internet speed. Being able to access them outside of the home would be iffy potentially. Most controllers only need a very slow connection to work outside the home though.

Few things to add to this.. I use reef-pi as a controller. Timers and such still function without a 100% reliable connection. My Kasa wifi strip timers act up once in a blue moon as an "off" command is sent but not received quick enough. My AI prime lights retain the last settings if for some reason power is cut or they lose wifi connectivity.

I don't think you have much to worry about if you have an unreliable connection.

you can stream netflix over 9mbps.

i used to be on a 5mbps line for the longest time. this will not be a limiting factor to setup your wifi equipment. all they need the internet for is to store their configs in "the cloud" of your equipment provider.

Your fine. And google is mostly a blank webpage. So you’re fine there too.

my pump and lights are wifi/app available.
I don't use it.
waiting for the Russian reef ransomware attack and everyone else's tanks get shut down.

You can tell who never used a computer on a dial up connection
when 33600 was a smoking fast connection
53333 for me.... Every once in a while I would get the magical over 56k connection... The good ole days!

We used to have dial up when we first moved to Minnesota, but I have absolutely no point of reference as to what these numbers actually mean or do XD

That's baud rate or connection speed you would achieve.

And you know you were a need when you can actually hear the connection and know about 98% of the time what connection speed you were going to get..lol

i remember the day that i was able to save enough money to purchase a USR courier modem, and connect at v90 or X2 speeds, when i found the right dial in pop :D

People don’t understand lock out attacks. If you’re locked out of a system, erase it. Done. It’s literally not even “hacking”.

The accuracy of your readings is not effected by the performance of your internet.
