I recently purchased a used 175 bowfront tank. I have moved everything except the tank and stand. My concern is carrying the tank up a narrow stair case with the plumbing for the two overflows exposed. As you know the tank is heavy and incase of an emergency you can't just put the tank down cause the plumbing is exposed and you with crack the tank.. Is it ok to remove the plumbing? Is it even possible? If you do get it off how hard is it to reattach it? Reattching the plumbing in an overflow would be real tight.
I would love some suggestions!
Thanks, Jon

YEa take it off. Just bulkheds, unscrew em. Clean em bck up and silicone em back into place.

Yes you can remove the bulkheads. However when reinstalling, do not use silicone caulking to reinstall them. Use the existing rubber seal with a thin layer of thread goop or even better use the 100% silicone lubricant to make sure it doesn't bind.

If there was silicone on it before clean it off with a razorblade. also shipping blankets in strategic spots on the stairs can give a failsafe resting spot. good tight shoes and measuare the doors before you bring it up.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to remove the plumbing. I stopped into visit the local aquarium shop and he lent me a special wrench to remove it. He also suggested using a hand truck, but to pad it first. I'm also going to set up a couple of saw horses to rest the tank on. I'll place them in strategic rest spots.
I'll let you all know how I make out. Thanks again.

yes, i would also remove those plumbing as much as possible. the tank is heavy as it is and you want to plan everything out carefully. good luck!
