16 days ago I took all my fish out of my display tank and into various QT/Hospital tanks. I was concerned with Ich in my tank so i decided to start over. I'm going to try to do it right so I started over on the 76 day fallow period in my display.

I believe that the fish were suffering from ICH at the least with white dots all over. I don't think it was velvet but I'm not sure.

Since then, the fish in QT were looking pretty good. However, my sailfin tang and my purple tang have displayed very washed out look in the Coppersafe QT. Colors have faded. After a few days, they both looked good despite their color loss. The white spots have disappeared and they are eating well; however, where the white spots existed on the sailfin, the skin is discolored and pink as if the parasites had really done a number chewing on the poor guy.

Honestly, they were doing ok and eating well. But I decided this morning to dose Kana and Metro to try to get the wounds to heal and clear up...

Now the water is cloudy and I'm thinking I really hosed it. What would you suggest? Nothing? Water change and copper only? This cloudy water has me second guessing everything.

well, i did a 10g water change and added coppersafe back

less cloudy ... maybe i should just soak food in the kana and metro instead of broadcast into the water

You can mix them but it's not uncommon for bascterial blooms to occur when you do. I would do a larger water change and re-dose everything again.

Loss of color on fish is frequent with velvet (gill damage), bacterial infections, and stress/poor water conditions.

Make sure the fish are in antibiotics for a full ten days if possible (or more), and that they are in therapeutic levels of copper for a full 30 days before removing.

You are likely experiencing a bacterial bloom which is normal when mixing meds. While the cloudy water can be alarming, it in and of itself won't hurt the fish... the lack of oxygen it causes is what is dangerous. Water changes will help, but adding O2 with a small powerhead or air stone is the best thing you can do. It does sound like the fish need the antibiotic, so I would continue to dose the kanaplex.

Ok. I have airstone and a powerhead right above it. I'll get the meds back in on Friday then because I don't want to overdose.

Should this be just put in the water or soak food in it? Both?

I recently went through the same thing with the bacterial bloom. 55 gallon quarantine and I ended up changing out 40 gallons before it cleared up. Stick with it, I am a week away from adding fish back and I am very glad I listened to the advice on here

put it in the water. every other day for a minimum of ten days with a water change before each new dose.

Ok so since I'm in the process of learning here, let me ask

does copper / coppersafe evaporate? Do I have to redose or add more with the ATO water?

I understand adding more when I do water changes. But do I add more when I add top off water? Or am I overdosing if I add the it to rodi?

Copper does not evaporate so you only need to add it when doing a water change. You will eventually overdose if adding it to the rodi.
