The reason I ask is after close to 6 years running my 75g I've never seen it this color before. I've used Chemiclean a few times in the past 6 years but that was for the red/purple colored stuff and it worked each time. I had an imbalance in the nutrients, the PO4 drop to 0 which brought this on.

Agree on Chemiclean. This can be loosened up with turkey baster and also additional water flow. When using chemiclean , keep an eye on the skimmer as it can make a skimmer to go nuts

Yeah, I’m familiar with Chemiclean having used it before. I didn’t want to use it if this wasn’t cyano. What threw me off was the color of this stuff, it’s a bright green and unlike what I’ve experienced in the past.

Their is also blue/green cyano. Which is what you are experiencing. I am dealing with a pretty bad case of the red stuff.
Both are treated the same. I dont know if I would just be subject to using Chemiclean so fast as too you want to figure out the root cause of the bacteria and target that for your treatment. That is what I am planning to do.

I’ve heard an imbalance in the nutrients could cause cyano or dinos. My PO4 dropped to 0 while NO3 is at 25, so I think this was the cause. The PO4 was around .1 until a couple of weeks ago when it dropped to 0 at the same time the cyano appeared.
