IM Desktop Ghost skimmer help

I dunno where to post this, but I'll try here anyways. LOL

I have an IM Lagoon 25, using the desktop ghost skimmer. It skims ok (so-so), the problem is, it is so loud. What would be the best pump replacement for it?

I tried searching google for a loud issue fix, but the one I found doesn't apply on desktop version (gluing the propeller to eliminate the gap).

I've read somewhere that they're using MJ1200 or MJ600. If I buy the cobalt, is it just plug and play? Also, what GPH is recommended for 25G. Is all the parts in the box complete to use for a skimmer? I'm assuming the stock pump parts aren't interchangeable with other brands. I.e. Needle wheel impeller, Venturi fitting, etc..

You can try to reduce pump hum by isolating the skimmer from touching the bottom or sides. I use silicone trivets for that, it helps.

Actually, I forgot to point out that the noise is a rattling sound.

Mine started to do that some after about 1 year. I just let it go but if it's really bugging you I'd call IM and ask about it.

I would take it apart and see how well the impeller is seated, maybe soak it in a vinegar solution. Rios aren't super quiet but they aren't loud either

Yeah, it bugs me a lot, sounds like a tractor in my living room. LOL

It was soaked in vinegar in a bucket while running for a whole day the first time I used it, and the noise has been there ever since.

Which rio is compatible for this skimmer? Does it comes whit the venturi and needle impeller?

I have mine propped up by a filter sponge only because the desktop version was too low for my filtration chamber. I've seen many posts about it being so loud and was confused because I cant hear a thing with mine. Maybe it's because of the sponge... you should try it!

I know this post is a little old but did you find a solution? Mine is driving me crazy in my lagoon also!?

I tried everything, but nothing worked. I put rubber feet, suspended on a sponge, changed pump, but no luck.

I bought a brand new one, and it is very quiet. Started skimming correctly after couple of days. Micro bubbles disappeared too after couple days.

I stayed with this skimmer because this is the only decent skimmer that will fit in the 25 lagoons back chamber.

wow! that stinks! mine is only 3mo old in my im25 and was really quiet at first! I didn't understand all the complaints about it being noisy? but has progressively gotten worse (loud) over time!
and so far not really impressed with the skim! what pumps are compatible with the ghost desktop? and do you think it may skim better with a better pump?
