Started this tank up on July 6th (about 25 days ago) initially in a fluval 13.5. First time using dry rock (second reef tank) and now in the process of giving my extra Marco rock away because I can’t stop messing with it (lol) Using a helio ptc 100w, sicce 1.0 return, rfg nozzle, ai prime, nero 3, an ATO, and bought the APS stand too ( I need to cover the gap in the top of the door) All is running well. Working at an LFS this summer and was able to cycle some matrix for about 4 weeks that was added 1 week after the bacteria. I have copepods everywhere! Also used ammonia and turbo start.

I plan to stick with about 4 nano fish, easy soft corals and macro algae. ( I know I’ll need a freshwater light).

Here are some pictures~

The Kenya tree was a free tester coral. So far so good!

****I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS!

1) My phosphate and nitrate have both been VERY low. Phosphate is 0, and Nitrate has RECENTLY hit 5ppm on my last test. Before this measuring 0. Nitrate has not tested higher than 6-8PPM. Is my tank “stalled”? Should I dose neophos? Have had light on the whole time and so far no algae! Is it necessary to bring phosphate to .1 or .2 during this time? I just started ghost feeding today and bought neophos for this and future endeavors. Had an ammonia and nitrite spike. Both of those are at 0 now.

2) Does anyone own a stand like this with an open back and have any cord management tips?

3) When I started the tank on July 6th, it was in a fluval 13.5. In that tank I dosed ammonia and turbo start. I then trashed all the rockwork in that tank- and chose new rock. I DID how ever re use the live sand from it. Should I dose more bac? Ammonia gets eaten and turned to nitrate as it is in the new tank. ( I used “cycled” media).

Thank you all!

I think you're probably fine as long as you add livestock slowly and give each fish time for the aquarium to adjust. You mainly need to see that ammonia spike and then decrease.

For your cord management, I'd probably just buy velcro cable ties off amazone and dress your cables out that way and then tuck them to the side of the stand using some 3M product, like command strips. (They have some hooks/tie products that would work well) That way if you need to untie anything or want to make changes, you're not stuck cutting cable ties or messing up your stand.

Looks great so far and welcome!
