I'm getting a huge outbreak of bubble algae

Emerald crabs will help but they will also make it spread to some extent. A few would likely let you get ahead of it.

The best critter is you! Make a bubble algae wand......a length of rigid tubing attached to flexible tubing. When doing a water change, first use your wand by starting a siphon. Pierce and suck out the bubble algae. Someone recently posted a video....I'll see if I can find it and edit it in.

EDIT TO ADD:

Found it.....go to THIS thread and look at the video in post #5

In my experience with this algea. A combo of things is the way to get rid of it. Start with the emeralds, some will eat it some will not. Manually removing it is also a good way and if you have a big enough tank a naso or unicorn tang will work.

Thanks. Not big enough for a naso. It's a 120. Nobody has mentioned a fox face so I guess that's not the best solution?

If you got a small naso you will be good for awhile. I'm sure the tang police will chime in but I think you will be good. I've thought about a fox face too but never seen them eat it

Good luck! I tried everything and eventually my reef and I were beaten by it. I would like to know what works. I had so much of it growing that it was popping and floating to the point I am pretty sure it became toxic and killed things off including the emeralds that were suppose to eat it. My water perameters were good the stuff just took off.

I used a small diameter tubing(stiff hose) to vacuum it away. It is tedious work, But it's the only way to eradicate it.

I fought with it for about 6 months. The only way i got rid of BA was replace the sand bed after i took out sand and cleaned it, put it back in It never came back. Good luck with the war. Been there

Jus got an emerald for bubble algae and I had a recent spout of cyano n I watched the emerald eat cyano over anything else n I must say wow.. I had no idea lol

It disappeared from the live rock?

No I used a exacto blade got it off all rocks. So basically I took everything out tank, cleaned it and put it back alone with a bottle of Dr'tim's one&only. No lost either BA problem solved

I use a pair of tweezers to carefully remove most of the bubbles. Sometimes they come off in clumps. I have an emerald crab in my sump. Thats usually the only place I get bubble algae. He might not eat it all but he keeps it at bay. The best way to get rid of it is to keep your levels in check and don't overfeed. Also, I never let it get out of hand. At first sight of it, I pull it out. I never let it build up and get out of control. I think that's where people go wrong sometimes. They don't do anything about it until its everywhere.

I am going to buy that just to have in the event that I ever see the stuff again
