I'm getting an Apex!!! Need display suggestions

Ah, thanks. I haven’t tried it recently on a gen 1. I may have tried it in an old gen 2 more recently. I still like the apex display and my phone

keep in mind that these products, the kindle, ipad, etc, were not designed to be on 24/7. I did setup a kindle fire myself when they were on sale for $50...and that lasted about a month or two and then the display went screwy. Amazon replaced it under warranty it happened so quick (I did not mention it was on 24/7) , and I've never used the replacement. The Apex display as unattractive as it is compared to other solutions, works.

Just my two cents...................
There are in 2 weeks, many Black Friday specials both consumer and aquatic. I cannot justify buying New equipment and trying to marry it with an Old version of any monitoe display which many have outdated software or compatability.
Newest kindle will be under $50 Black Friday and I can guess that Apex will have many of their ware on sale/ I bought the display at $99 when I purchased mine but also wanted to be assured I had a system and communicates with its' components.

I want something that shows 3 columns.

Hello

I am getting my very first Neptune Apex Controller. I'm getting the 799.99 controller and i'm getting 2 Wav pumps.

I know I will be asking bunches of questions about it but for now the question I most need answers for is....

What can I use for a display?

I want something I can get on ebay or amazon.
I want something inexpensive.
I want something fully functional.

I've heard that I can use Kindle Fire 7
I've heard I can use old iPad
I've heard I can use any Android tablet

What are the pro's and cons of each?
For iPad, what is the oldest I can use?
For Android tablet, what's the oldest I can use?

Thanks for your help and info in advance.

I have been very happy with a kindle fire - just get whichever one is the beat deal at the time. I think my display is 7-8 inch diagonal which works well for apex. Terrence has a nice video on how to set it up.

I have an old gen 2 iPad that I'm using. HTML worked but was clunky. I currently have the Neptune app up on it. That is also a bit clunky, but I think it's just because the iPad is so old. The app requires iOS 9.2 so I don't think it will work with a 1st gen iPad.

I burned through two kindle fire (display went wonky on both) before concluding same. I now use a recent generation iPad mini but I close it down at night. Been up about a year, so far so good. Apex display is fine, just limited screen area .... but I like the audible alarm.

I am planning a cabinet build and was going to put my ipad 2 gen on a stand on top, I am running apex fusion app on my phone and the ipad (which is currently in my kitchen wall mainly for youtube tv. )

I have to concur with the folks who say to have the apex display available first and foremost, it connects directly to the controller and there may be a time you will kick yourself for not having it. And yes, definitely works with wet fingers.

The ipad apex fusion display is nice, but I am having second thoughts. I'm no longer so gung ho on a full time display merely for seeing my temp ph etc. My phone and laptop are always near for any programing. I think my beta (siamese fighting fish) bowl will make a much better display on top of the apex/wire cabinet, with the apex display mounted on the exterior front panel.

I have no experience with Kindle Fires, so I can't comment on them, but many stores use iPads for kiosks and have them on 24/7 with no issues. The old iPad 2 that I have been using has a cracked screen, but has been running for several 6-7 months without issue.

I have an old iPad first generation. it no longer updates. current operating system is 5.1.1 It cannot download fusion or even firefox or chrome because the software won't work with this iOS version. the safari that is on it goes to apex.local but there is no sign on prompt. how do you guys get the first generation iPads to work for you???

But I already have the iPad firsts generation that's sitting here doing nothing. it would be nice If i could put it to some use. also I heard the new fire HD resolution is lower on horizontal and so only shows 2 rows of the fusion display instead of 3. how old is your fire hd and what is the resolution that it has. I will compare it to what they are presently selling if you say you can see all 3 rows. thanks.

I use one of the kindle fires as my display. You have to change something in the settings for it to display correctly, but I think it looks perfectly fine.

The only annoying thing is that it’s like mobile in that it’s for display purposes only... you can’t edit anything unless you’re on a laptop/ desktop. So you could just use an old phone of some sort as the display window.

Purchased a Fire 10 refurbished from Amazon for equivalent of $90. Does the job perfectly and can watch movies on it when not needed to monitor the tank!
